Helmut Newton<\/strong> f\u00f6ddes i Berlin den 31 oktober 1920 i en v\u00e4lb\u00e4rgad judisk familj med f\u00f6rnamnet Helmut Neust\u00e4dter, som han anv\u00e4nde tills han var 26 \u00e5r gammal, d\u00e5 han skulle kallas Helmut Newton.<\/p>\n

Hans far var en rik knapptillverkare.<\/p>\n

Redan som ung var han intresserad av fotografi och vid 16 \u00e5rs \u00e5lder, 1936, b\u00f6rjade han arbeta f\u00f6r den tyske fotografen Elsie Simon alias \"Yva\".<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Hans far var inte alls road av att Helmut ville bli fotograf, och efter grundskolestudier fram till \"N\u00fcrnberglagarna\", som innebar att judiska skolbarn m\u00e5ste skiljas fr\u00e5n ariska, skickade han honom till den nordamerikanska skolan i Berlin, d\u00e4r han inte alls var en korrekt elev, utan bara var intresserad av simning, flickor... och fotografering.<\/p>\n

Ett \u00e5r innan andra v\u00e4rldskriget br\u00f6t ut, 1938, flydde han som 18-\u00e5ring fr\u00e5n Tyskland till Singapore och fortsatte d\u00e4r att arbeta som fotograf f\u00f6r tidningen 'Singapore Straits times<\/strong>‘.<\/p>\n

Fotograf Yva<\/strong> kunde inte fly och dog i koncentrationsl\u00e4gret Auschwitz.<\/p>\n

Eftersom han var tysk l\u00e5ste myndigheterna i Singapore in honom i ett interneringsl\u00e4ger och skickade honom till Australien.<\/p>\n

N\u00e4r han sl\u00e4pptes ut tog han v\u00e4rvning i den australiska arm\u00e9n fram till 1945, vilket sammanf\u00f6ll med andra v\u00e4rldskrigets slut. De fem \u00e5r han tj\u00e4nstgjorde i Australien som menig gjorde att han kunde bli australisk medborgare och 1946 bytte han namn till Helmut Newton<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Han \u00f6ppnade sin egen fotostudio i Melbourne och d\u00e4r tr\u00e4ffade han sk\u00e5despelerskan June Browne<\/strong><\/a> (idag \u00e4ven fotograf 'June Newton<\/strong>' eller 'Alice Springs<\/strong>') som han skulle s\u00e4ga till innan han gifte sig: \" Jag har en k\u00e4rlek i mitt liv, n\u00e4mligen fotografering. Du kommer att vara den andra<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Hon \u00e5kte till London i tv\u00e5 \u00e5r f\u00f6r att komplettera sin utbildning inom modebranschen.<\/p>\n

Han gifte sig med June 1948.<\/p>\n

Hon p\u00e5verkade hans arbete i h\u00f6g grad och han blev snart en internationellt erk\u00e4nd ikonisk modefotograf.<\/p>\n

Han reste st\u00e4ndigt till Paris f\u00f6r att arbeta f\u00f6r de st\u00f6rsta modetidningarna. S\u00e5 mycket att han best\u00e4mde sig f\u00f6r att bos\u00e4tta sig d\u00e4r.<\/p>\n

Fr\u00e5n och med maj 1961, n\u00e4r han var 41 \u00e5r gammal, var han en regelbunden medarbetare i Vogue, en fransk tidskrift som publicerade hans b\u00e4sta bilder i 25 \u00e5r.<\/p>\n

Han har ocks\u00e5 arbetat f\u00f6r de amerikanska, italienska och tyska utg\u00e5vorna av Vogue, Linea Italiana, Queen, Nova, Jardin del Modes, Marie Claire<\/strong> och Elle<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Hans hustru June blev 1970 k\u00e4nd som fotograf under pseudonymen Alice Springs<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Inspirerad av film noir, expressionistisk film och surrealism \u00e4r hans bilder kontroversiella, provocerande och mycket voyeuristiska till sin natur.<\/p>\n

Han var en pionj\u00e4r inom modefotografin b\u00e5de p\u00e5 grund av de milj\u00f6er han fotograferade i och p\u00e5 grund av den attityd han fotograferade modellerna med. Till skillnad fr\u00e5n resten av tidens modefotografer fotograferade Newton inte i en studio: han f\u00f6redrog att g\u00f6ra det i herrg\u00e5rdar fr\u00e5n sekelskiftet 1900, eleganta villor och hotell av den renaste lyxen.<\/p>\n

Newton t\u00e4njde p\u00e5 modebranschens gr\u00e4nser med sina provocerande bilder och fick lyssna p\u00e5 att han sj\u00e4lv blev st\u00e4mplad som kvinnohatare.<\/p>\n
